Ordering, Payment & Shipping

Various issues that influence how and when a Surfblank product is supplied.

Does Surfblanks need hard copy orders?
Yes!

If the order is not prepaid an email will secure the order. The hard copy assists us and you to know what, when and where! It is harder to screw up a hard copy order as opposed to a verbal.

Can the blank box be used again if it is returned?

Yes!

If the condition of the box is good and it will take the stapled caps again. Keep in mind that the saving on new box cost should not be wiped out by the freight (sender's responsibility) required to return the used box.

I ordered the wrong blank, can I return it?

Yes, blanks can be returned when the customer has ordered the wrong shape or size. The blanks must be returned in the original box in the original condition. Return freight must be prepaid by the customer so there is no cost to Surfblanks. The return will incur a 20% restocking charge to cover Surfblanks' admin and logistics cost. This charge will be applied to any refund or replacement.

Surfblanks publishes large, easy to understand blank diagrams in the Blank Families section of this site. Critical dimensions are clearly shown so that even the most inexperienced shaper can determine whether the blank will allow the target board shape.

NB - Due to the fact that freight costs can often be greater than the value of the blanks being shipped, customers are advised to be very careful in their blank selection.

How long is the wait for custom glue ups?
On average wait time for custom glue ups is 1 - 2 weeks.

Does a custom glue/special density blank up need to be prepaid?
Yes!

Due to the fact that not every other shaper appreciates another's curves, we need you to commit to your special order.

Due to the set up required for a non stock density we need the same commitment.

I can't wait for a custom glue up, what can you give me out of stock?
M08 rocker in every blank size is always in stock. M08 is a curve that is fairly universal, with modest nose and tail kick.

Surfblanks can hold 7000 blanks at any time. What might not be available is non stock densities in a particular size. Stock densities are Green in short boards and Blue foam in mid length and longboard blanks.

Stock stringers are shown on each blank drawing in Blank Families.

Blanks & Shapers Information

Questions or issues you may have regarding blanks.

What can I do if the nose or tail of my blank separates from the wood stringer during shaping?
1 – Dribble some Superglue/Krazyglue (cyanoacrylate) into the gap beside the stringer and then press the foam/wood together until dry (usually minutes). Strap up with masking tape if you are not in a rush to keep shaping.

Why is my shaped blank twisting during or after laminating?
1 - Glassing stands at different levels.

2 - Drying racks at different levels.

3 - Cloth weave is not squared up on blank so diagonal pull develops as resin dries and shrinks (styrene loss).

4 - Too much time has elapsed between bottom layup and deck layup - ie more than 24 hours.

5 - Blank is made from foam that is subject to stress release when cut on one side.

Can Surfblank's low volume blanks be machined on a computer cutter?
Yes, all Surfblanks blanks can be computer cut to shape provided that...

1 - The deck curve of the blank to be cut and the computer drawing match.

Surfblanks has the capability to print out (full size) any deck curve or stringer profile from a computer file, make a wooden stringer from that drawing, glue it into a blank and then supply the blank for cutting.
